Biography

Subroto Som is the Senior Executive Vice President – Head of Retail Banking Group at Mashreq Bank, the UAE’s leading financial institution. Since joining Mashreq in 2016, Subroto has played a vital role in transforming Mashreq’s retail banking arm into an innovative, digital-first and customer-centric bank.
Subroto has over 30 years of experience across all aspects of consumer banking, wealth management, commercial banking, and business management in more than thirty countries across Asia, the Middle East and Africa. Prior to joining Mashreq, he held senior positions within Risk Management and Consumer Banking at Citibank and Standard Chartered. He also served as a Board Director in Indonesia’s Permata Bank and Standard Chartered Singapore.
Subroto holds a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) in Finance from Indian Institute of Management and a Bachelor’s degree in Technology in Mechanical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology.
